Stockwell lines other than William, Quinton, and James

Compiled by Foster Stockwell

This is a listing of 145 different Stockwells and Stockwell family lines found in the American record that are not related to the three main Stockwell families (descendants of William, Quinton, or James).

Any additions or changes to this list will be appreciated -- send to stockwell.81@hotmail.com

AA GABRIELL STOCKWELL
b. 1619. Reportedly embarked from Gravesend, England, for America on 10 June 1635 (see Result of Some Researches Among the British Archives for Information Relative to the Founders of New England by Samuel C. Drake). He was listed as a convict, the reason for which was his failure to conform to order of the Church of England. The ship, however, deposited him on the Barbadoes Islands, and he never came to America . He was 16 at the time.
------------

AB SAMUEL STOCKWELL
b. unkn. England . He is listed in the 1654-1663 passenger listings for ships sailing from Bristol , England , to America , but there is no record of his arrival. Others listed as having embarked for America and who may or may not have lived here (for there is no record at this end) are: ROSE STOCKWELL (1650-VA), MARGARET STOCKWELL (1653-VA), THOMAS STOCKWELL (1654-VA), LAWRENCE STOCKWELL (1656-VA), MARTHA STOCKWELL (1695-VA), and ELINOR STOCKWELL (1703-VA). Some may have been indentured servants, others (the women) may have married soon after they arrived and so changed their names. Then there is a JOHN STOCKWELL who is said to have arrived in Maryland in 1662 and been married to a woman named Mary, and finally there is a JOHN STOCKWELL listed as leaving England for America in 1731, but we have no record of where he diembarked, if he indeed landed here.
------------

The judge in the case was William Watts, Governor of St. Christopher and the will was for Sampson Lane , a resident of St. Christopher.
